Who's He??

Today the dinosaur media is all a-flutter, gushing over the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to ex-Vice President Al Gore.

I'm not sure what making a movie based on highly questionable science has to do with world peace, but I'm sure Gore's achievements are comparable to recipients like Yasir Arafat and Jimmy Carter. And he hardly needs more notice from the likes of me.

Just to be my usual contrarian self, however, I did find someone in the news today who's far more worthy of notice...Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, who was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously today, America's highest decoration.

A US Navy SEAL, Murphy and his team were on a mission in Afghanistan in 2005 in the Hindu Kush mountains, hunting for a wanted Taliban leader.

He and his four man team were ambushed in the mountains, and in danger of being overrun when Murphy stepped into the breech. Even though he'd already been wounded, Murphy risked his life to save his fellow SEALs and then maneuvered into an open position to send out an emergency call while continuing to fire at the jihadis until he was hit again.

President Bush will present the Medal of Honor to Murphy's parents on October 22 at the White House.

Murphy was a native of Long Island. His father, Daniel, an attorney and a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, said that going to Afghanistan was something very important to his son.

"He told me, 'We're going where the people who planned, plotted and recruited for 9/11 are,' " Daniel Murphy said.

Murphy's mother, Maureen, said the Medal of Honor meant that "now the world will know what his family has always known: how special he was."

Indeed he was.

It continues to amaze me that heroes like Michael Murphy go almost unnoticed in the press, and that tales of America's heroes are largely ignored in our public schools, which gave up a long time ago the responsibility they were originally created to fulfill...to teach citizenship. I'd bet not one high school child in a hundred could tell you who Joshua Chamberlain , Alvin York , or Audie Murphy was.

A country can come up with posturing clowns like Al Gore ad naseum, but when it pays more attention to them and loses sight of its heroes, it loses its soul.

Yet somehow, with all that, we continue to come up with men like Patrick Murphy, who are willing to put their lives on the line for our beloved Republic and remind us of what true heroism really means...and what's really worthy of notice.

Hat tip to Laura Ingraham, on the radio today...

Nah...the thanks goes to guys like Lieutenant Murphy, who put their lives on the line every day.

Most of `em, we never hear about. And with Al Gore getting all the publicity today, I took the opportunity to focus on someone truly important.

as for gore getting the PIECE prize. what it confirms to myself at least, is that the global warming ilk is a political movement/agenda and not a physical science. if so, he would have been awareded the nobel prize for science.

I was surprised today to see a lot of derogatory comments on the Gore thing e-mailed in by readers actually published on CNN.com. They usually filter out everything that doesn't agree with their insane left-leaning agenda...check it out.

Well Vaclav Klaus, the Czech President noted: "The relationship between his activities and world peace is unclear and indistinct, It rather seems that Gore's doubting of basic cornerstones of the current civilization does not contribute to peace"...

Personally I think people like Patrick Murphy should be the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize but its been politicized by LIBTARDS...

Some years ago, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Arafat. Does the award have credibility and integrity any longer? Not as far as I'm concerned.
